Chapter 3-Rough Roads

The next day was simple and easy. I awoke with my hair a disaster and bags under my eyes. I was lucky I didn’t have to start school for another week; I needed more sleep and most importantly get rid of some stress. I didn’t bother to brush my hair and or teeth. I just wanted to get some new clothes, take a shower and then brush. I opened up the door and headed down stairs. It was grey inside, so I didn’t even bother to go check the weather.
“Char!! You up!?” No reply. “I guess he’s still sleepin’.”  I ambled over to the kitchen desk and grabbed the car keys, and headed outside. The front door opened quieter than expected, so I decided just to run out there, grab my bags and do what I had planned. I pushed the trunk button to unlock it and opened it up. I grabbed my bags that seemed to way more than I did and struggled inside. When I shut the door behind me, thunder blasted loudly, causing me to jump, trip over my bags, and fall embarrassingly to the floor.
“Well, guess you’re awake already.” Charlie said, standing at the hallway arch opening with a chuckle. My face turned bright red and I quickly stood up, grabbing my bags and stammering upstairs. I heard Charlie trying to hide laughing from upstairs and that only built up more embarrassment and anger, so I slammed my room door behind me hen I got there.
“God forbid, Charlie. God forbid!” I threw my bags onto my bed and began to empty them out furiously. I folded them all up and put them away on the floor, and headed for the shower.
When I was finished the shower and brushing my teeth, I put some fresh clothes on; a pair of black baggy shorts and a black shirt with a red skull on it. I went downstairs after and went outside.
“Oh yeah, my phone!” I ran back into the house, grabbed my phone and ran back outside yelling; “Going out for awhile!!” I accidentally slammed the door and tripped running down the stairs. (I was always most clumsy in school and it never really bothered me, in a way it made me laugh.) I flipped open my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I found Sean. I hit the send button and the phone began to ring.
“Hello…?” Sean answered with a yawn.  
“Aye’! What’s up?” I replied, a little too sarcastic.
“Erm, nothing much…sitting in my room with nothing to do. You?”
“Eh same, do you wanna’ go somewhere? I can drive you know, I have a permit!” I smiled at the thought of going somewhere other than here; I needed to get out of this stress hole. Sean chuckled and caused himself to sneeze.
“Yeah I guess we can go somewhere. Hey, by the way, you sound a lot better. How are you?”
“I’m fine…I already need to get outta’ here thought. Ha-ha!” I continued walking down the path that led to the road without thinking, I just went were my body lead.
“That’s good; well I guess I should get ready. Where we going?” he asked and I could here himself getting off his bed from the sound of his bed creaking loudly.
“Anywhere, anywhere at all. I’ll be there in the a half an hour. Alright?”
“Mhm. See you soon.” And with that I hit the end button and the screen read, “00:05:54”.
“Mmmm…great…more time out of my minutes.” I closed the phone and ran back into the house.
“DRAKE! Stop running back and forth into the house!” he yelled from upstairs.
“Sorry, I’m going out for a while with Sean!!” I yelled back, grabbing the keys and waiting for a reply.
“With…?” I smiled and headed towards the door.
“Your truck! See ya’!” and with that I headed outside and into the truck. I put the keys into the hole and turned them bringing the truck to life. Without any second thoughts I drove away. I pulled into Sean’s drive way with him waiting, arms crossed and an impatient look on his face. He walked up and opened the door without waiting for me to park, “Just go…” he said, slamming the door shut. So I backed up and drove away.
“Um…what’s…?”
“Everything!! I…I just don’t like living here…that’s all.” He tapped his fingers on the passenger side door while shaking his leg. Sean wasn’t the patient or calm type when it came to him being aggravated.
“Oh sorry about…I don’t know…whatever happened.”  He nodded his head and smiled, but I could tell he was only trying to please me. “So…guess what!?”
“What?”
“I had this crazy dream…it was about-“
“Dragons?” he asked, not letting me finish.
“Uh…yeah…how’d you-“
“You dream a lot about dragons, too many…I know now what kinda’ dreams you have.” He laughed and patted me on the shoulder. I laughed along with him trying to hide the fact that it was annoying when he did that. “Well, aren’t you going to tell me what this dream you had is all about?”
“Yeah…I guess. Ok, well I met-“
“Turn here!” he interrupted again and I quickly turned left onto Sharish Ave.
“And…why am I turning here?” I asked, my eyebrow crooked.
“Cause’ I wanna’ go somewhere. Now tell me the dream!” Sean demanded, impatiently. His attitude was really starting to get on my nerves, but I kept quiet to stop any arguments.
“Ok…” I smirked, “Well, the dream was kinda’…what’s the word? Real, I guess. I was in this black nothingness…like an abyss and my body was telling itself to run. At the same time I heard some gentle voice.” I paused and took a long breath, then continued. “I wound up meeting some girl named-“
“Luna? Right?”
“Y-y-yeah!!” I was shocked; it was like he was reading my mind. “How do you know!?” I asked demandingly.
“I had the same dream last night. You met some girl named Luna who turned out to your so called, “guardian” and she also turned out to be dragon…is that it?” I shook my head to knock the amazement and shock out.
“Yeah that’s it! That’s kinda’ weird, don’t you think?’ Sean said nothing and kept a serious look on his pale face. I looked at his red hair which was growing out to look like an afro.
“Sean you need a haircut, like whoa!” I laughed at the, “Hey! Just shut up and leave my afro alone!” look he gave me. “Well, you do.” He gave me a glare and placed his hands on his hair.
“Just drive Drake. And take another left when we get to one.” He pointed down the street and pouted, mumbling under his breath.
When we came to a left, I turned like told and drove a good mile or two down when Sean told me to take a right. I sighed at the fact of not knowing where we where going, so I just decided to ask.
“Sean…where in the world are we going?” I asked, starting to get impatient myself, I never was one for long drives.
“Well…I decided we’d go to the old hideout. The one deep in the woods where we use to live.” I smiled a smile so wide it would have gone off my face it that could happen and patted Sean on the back.
“Really!? I miss that place…” I picked up speed to 50 since no one was around and took a left when I came to one. Sean held onto the door handle and began to laugh hysterically, with tears building up in his eyes. We both were laughing our heads off when we came to the path that lead to the old houses. I pulled in slowly, remembering all the bumps we use to encounter living here. When we arrived, I opened the door almost falling out from all the laughter and not to mention my legs went numb from the long drive. The area was deserted, the houses were gone and the only thing left were trees, lots and lots of trees.
“I don’t remember this…do you?” I asked, running my hands across the trucks bed and stepping up to Sean. Sean’s eye twitched and his hand began to shake violently. I stepped back slowly and stumbled on a branch, falling to the ground hard. “Uh, Sean…are you okay?” His eyes turned full white and he turned his head dementedly, staring at me.
“I said…DON’T TRY AND HIDE THINGS FROM ME!!!” his voice was feminine and also demented. My eyes began to water and I began to crawl backwards towards my truck.
“Luna…” I recognized the voice and built up enough courage to stand up and talk back. Why should I be scared anyway, I knew who it was. Was it the fact that she took over my friends’ body, or was I scared to admit that she was real?
“What do you want?” I asked demandingly.
“Nothing, I just want you to stop running and face the truth.”
“WHAT TRUTH!?” I yelled, hoping I would wake up and this would all be a dream.
Sean’s body stepped up to me and his finger down my arm, until his hand grabbed my wrist with unbreakable force. I winced and struggled to break free but she only held on tighter.
“The truth…that I exist, the more you deny it, the more I loose in power and eventually I disappear.” She said. “You need to believe and trust in me Drake. I’m not here to harm you in any way…”
“You are now.” I looked away, still struggling to break free from her grasp.
“Please Drake, this isn’t harm to you. You need to realize what I am and take responsibility with me.” I sighed and gave up the fight and she began to loosen her grip, soon leaving me free. I rubbed my wrist and looked up at her as she smiled back at me.
“Alright! What do you want from me? What do you want me to believe? What responsibility?” I asked, I had no choice in the matter. The more I resist the more pain I get out of it.
She smirked and sat down Indian style, I could tell this was going to be long so I too sat down and prepared myself for whatever I was about to hear.
“You see Drake, as you know already I am a dragon named Luna. Right?” I nodded in approval and she continued. “Well…there are more of my kind and as of now we are in the midst of a 500 year old war.”
“What war…?”
“A war between dragons, obviously. The dragons of light, also known as Dragons of the Moon, and the dragons of the dark known as, Dragons of the Eclipse. You see, we the Dragons of the Moon need help and some of us were sent out to retrieve two human boys. You and your friend, Sean.” My eyes widened and my heart began to beat uncontrollably.
“Me and…Sean?” Why us?” I was in total shock, it felt like my heart was going to pop its way out of my chest.
“Well…you two had the most what we call…spiritual pressure. Your imagination and Sean’s both released a spiritual entity that was noticeable to even the Dragons of the Eclipse.” All this elucidation was beginning to hurt my head, and I had no idea what was going on.
“Okay, so how come your telling me this and not Sean? I questioned.
“Because if I come out as a spiritual entity I would get caught by the Dragons of The Eclipse, putting you two in jeopardy.” Luna clarified.  “So by me hiding in this kid’s body, my powers are veiled.”
“Oh…I get it.”
Luna put her two index fingers on her temples and closed her eyes. Moments went by in silence until the patience nerve in me subsided.
“What are you thinking about so hard?” I asked, tapping me foot, with arms crossed.
“I am not thinking about anything, I’m simply sending a telepathic message to Vixen.” She opened her eyes and smiled gracefully, and I could tell she caught my face of confusion. ‘Oh, you’ll meet her soon enough. No worries Drake!”
I nodded and tried to act like I was actually listening to what she said; the thing really on mind was Sean. How does she plan on telling him this? I know I’m not; he’ll look at me like I was fanatical. Next thing would be sending me to a hospital for crazy people…yeah…I wasn’t up for that.
“Okay, well how do you plan on telling this to Sean?”
“Thanks for asking!” Luna said with a chuckled added in.  I felt a pulse go through me and began to sweat. I fell to the ground as the rocks pierced my knees, it was like gravity intensified and the earth was beginning to drop.
“What’s…going…on!?” I asked, every word separate and took more breath than necessary. I saw Sean’s lips move but I couldn’t grasp what Luna was trying to say. Suddenly, an emerald colored dragon fell to the ground causing a rumble in the ground. Smoke rose from the area the dragon landed in so any chance in seeing it was slim. The gravity weakened and I was able to stand back up to my feet. I wiped the sweat from my forehead and gave Luna a glare.
“SEKARO!! I TOLD YOU NOT TO USE SO MUCH POWER! STOP BEING SO DRAMATIC!!” Luna yelled, ignoring my glare.
“I know, I know!! God!” this voice was cavernous identifying it as a male. I could instantly tell this dragon was superior in strength. The dust cloud slithered away revealing the emerald colored dragon, it’s back full of spikes that trailed down to its long tail.
Awesome!!  He’s so…deity like! I thought, smiling but trying to hide it from Luna.
Wait till’ you get to know his personality…you’ll LOVE it. Luna replied sarcastically and sending me a disgusted look towards him.
I guess you don’t like him…?
Just forget it and listen…he’s going to explain some of your questions. And with that Luna nodded and motioned me to listen, so I did.
“Hello-ooo Drake!!” he bellowed. “My name is Sekaro also known as the Dragon of Poison!!” I nodded and motioned my hand for him to continue; he gave me and angry look and continued, “I am Sean’s dragon, so Lust you are going to have to get out of his body.” Sekaro coughed and I saw Sean’s body drop to the ground harshly. Another pulse surged through and I began to be forced to the ground, but I held my ground. Luna appeared simultaneously and stood tall and proud next to Sekaro as a dragon. The two dragons looked like gods as the suns rays beamed off their scaly bodies.
A moment later, I looked over at Sean who began to mumble as he began to stand up. I knew this wasn’t going to be good; he’s going to create a scene. I closed my eyes and he stood up completely and rubbed his eyes. A moment went by and there was no screaming, nothing. It was quiet and still, I opened my eyes and saw Sean staring at the dragons, his jaw dropped.
“Awesome…! Is this a dream?” he asked himself. I rolled my eyes and shook my head “no”; he just smiled in return and began to walk up to them.
“Oh god.” I chuckled and stood there thinking how over-exaggerating he can be.
He just walked up to Sekaro and placed his hand on his neck, Sekaro just gave me a look and I shrugged. Sean whirled around smiling at me; this is where the 20 questions would kick in.
“Drake!! This emerald dragon is amazing! He’s so perfect, just like my imaginary dragon.” He yelled excitingly.
“Yeah, and he’s yours. Now can you shut up so he can explain some things.”
“The-they TALK!?” he started jumping up and down his glasses almost fell of in the process. His red-orange hair flopping all over the place, Sekaro and Luna both exchanging looks.
“STOP SEAN!” I yelled, walking over to him grabbing his arm and keeping him still. “Just let them explain.”
“Okay, I’ll calm down. Calm down Sean, calm down.”
And so, Sekaro began.
“Hello Sean, my name is Sekaro also known as the Dragon of Poison. I am your guardian, as Luna…” he looked at Luna and she bowed her head. “Is Drake’s guardian, we and more of my kind need you guys help in a 500 year-old dragon war.” Sean nodded and raised his hand as he was in school.
“Yes…?” Sekaro rolled his eyes, telling Sean to speak. Sean coughed and pushed his glasses up with his finger.
“Well, you say there is this war going on, right?” Sekaro nodded. “Well, how are we humans going to help?” Sekaro sighed as Luna joined in, they both looked at each other and shook there heads.
“This isn’t going to work Sekaro, they need to meet Mora. I think this is a good enough time.”
“Mora? Where is she?” I asked. Sekaro and Luna smiled at each other sending me a message of worry through my body.
“The moon.” She said. Sean and I looked at each other, our jaws dropped.
“The moon?”
“Well…not on the moon, inside the moon.” Sekaro added.
I was distressed and every hair on me stood up. Inside the moon? That’s impossible but then again, nothing seemed impossible right now considering I was standing in front of two dragons.
“Okay hold up. Inside the moon?” Sean asked, rubbing his head and tapping his foot on the ground.
“Yes! Now no more questions, you’ll have to wait till’ we get there. Get on!” Luna explained.
“You too Sean!” Sekaro stepped up to Sean and kneeled down allowing him to hop on without struggle. Luna did the same and I too hoped on without hesitation.
Their wings began to unfold dramatically as dust built up from the ground.
“Wait! What about my dad’s truck?”
“It’ll be fine! Now…hold on!!” And with that dragons both lifted from the ground and jetted high into the sky.
